“I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been sitting on this announcement for months now, and my publisher has finally given me permission to go public. It’s a dramatic change of course, that’s for sure, and I hope it will excite you as much as it excites me.”
– Anne Rice on ‘The Dinner Party Show’
Anne Rice released unbelievable news this weekend on The Dinner Party Show with Christopher Rice and Eric Shaw Quinn. News incredible enough to stir a hornet’s nest of thrill throughout her fan base.
Lestat is back!
Her new novel, due for release on 28 October 2014 will be entitled ‘Prince Lestat’ and is the first in a series to follow the first five novels of the Vampire Chronicles. Ms Rice has already begun work on including a second novel in this ‘new’ series as well.
The news is surprising as the author insisted she would never return to her Lestat, that his voice was quiet in her mind. But for months now, years even, the People of the Page, as Ms Rice affectionately calls her fan following on Facebook, have been clamouring loudly for the Brat Prince’s return. He left us with a bittersweet message in the novel Blood Canticle, that he had felt a great failing of spirit, of heart, that he was pained beyond repair. But that he would return brighter and more shimmering than ever.
True to his promise, we will see him again soon, only seven and a half months to go!
Perhaps it was the united voices of his fans that brought him out of hiding. Chattering of him on Facebook, adoring him at the 2013 Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Fanclub’s annual ball, a tribute to him and his little family this past year. This year, of course, will be the greatest of celebrations. Twelve years later, Lestat de Lioncourt has returned to us, and, according to the author, his old companions and nemeses will be joining him on the pages of this new series.
It has been a long wait, but one can be sure, it will have been worth it.
You can catch the Dinner Party Show every Sunday at 8pm EST or 5pm PST
Anne Rice and The Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Fan Club can be found on Facebook with regular updates involving intrigue on not only the Vampire Chronicles and other series in Ms Rice’s body of work, but current international events.
